Cozi Alternatives for Couples: What to Use When It's Just the Two of You
By the Homeful team · · 7 min read
Cozi has been the go-to family organiser for years: a shared calendar, shopping lists and to-dos for the whole family. It's a good app. But it was designed around families with children, and couples sharing a home often want something a bit different. Here's how to decide, and what else to look at.
What Cozi does well
- A family calendar with a colour per family member, built for juggling school runs and activities.
- Shared shopping and to-do lists that everyone in the family can edit.
- Recipes and meal planning, including a recipe library.
- Maturity: it's been around a long time and is available on phones and the web.
Where it fits couples less well
It's built around a family calendar.Much of the design is about coordinating several people's schedules. For two adults, the harder problems are usually elsewhere: who's doing which chore, what we owe each other, whether the dog was fed.
No shared expenses.Cozi doesn't track who paid for what or keep a balance between you, so couples who split costs end up adding a second app like Splitwise or a spreadsheet.
The free version has limits.According to Cozi's FAQ, the free version lets you enter events from the Agenda view for the next 30 days and shows ads. Cozi Gold, which Cozi lists at $39, removes the ads and the calendar limit and adds extras like month view on mobile and more reminders. Check Cozi's own site for current plans, as these change.
What couples usually want instead
When couples describe what they need, it tends to be five things in one place:
- One grocery list on both phones that updates instantly
- Shared chores, including the ones that repeat
- A record of shared costs and who owes whom
- A calendar for plans that affect both of you
- For pet owners, a log of who fed and walked the dog
Alternatives worth trying
Google or Apple shared calendars plus a notes app. Free, and fine if your main need is the calendar. A shared Google calendar works on any phone; a shared iCloud calendar is built into iPhones. Lists live in a shared note. Our guide to setting up a shared calendar covers how to make one stick. The downside is that nothing connects: the vet visit, the vet bill and the dog's medication live in three different places.
Splitwise plus a list app. Good if money is the main friction. Splitwise handles the balance, and any shared list app handles groceries. Our post on Splitwise for couplescovers where it fits at home and where it doesn't.
A household app built for couples. One app for the lists, chores, calendar, money and pets, shared between two phones. This is the category Homeful is in.
How Homeful compares
We built Homeful for exactly this: two people running one home. It has a shared grocery list, chores and to-dos with assignment and recurring tasks, a shared calendar, shared expenses with a running balance and settle-up, and pet care logging, all live on both phones.
The free plan includes the grocery list, tasks, expenses, the calendar and pet logging, with no ads. Premium is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year for the whole household and lifts the list limits, adds the AI assistant, recurring bills, medication and vet reminders, and history.
Where Cozi is the better choice: big families with children's schedules to coordinate, and anyone who wants its recipe library and meal planning. If it's the two of you and your home, Homeful covers more of what you share.
Details of Cozi's plans are based on Cozi's website and FAQ as of October 2026 and may change.
